“Bloody Movie” (aka “Terror Night”) is a fun, quirky, and entertainingly cheesy slasher movie with a good helping of skin and gore.

THE PLOT: A group of teens spend the night in the abandoned Hollywood mansion of one time screen idol Lance Hayward. The teens are systematically killed off by a man wearing costumes from Hayward’s old movies. A biker named Angel and his biker babe (Michelle Bauer) are also crashing the dilapidated mansion. Who will survive the “Terror Night”?

“Bloody Movie” is a sort of rarity. The film was shot in 1987 and promoted in trade papers and genre magazines but never got released.  It sat on a shelf for 20 years before getting a badly transferred DVD release. Supposedly, there were copyright issues with the older movie footage used in the film and a scandalous rumor about the “Bloody Movie” being produced with mob money.

To be honest, “Bloody Movie” is better than most of the crap flicks on this site. It’s got decent gore (including a realistically disturbing decapitation) and an interesting story. There’s also nudity from Michelle Bauer (who has a graphic sex scene and runs around in a G-string) and 80’s pornstar Jamie Summers. The cast is inspired but amateurish and includes many recognizable b-movie actors. There’s William Butler (Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3), Staci Greason (Friday the 13^th part VII: The New Blood), Ken Abraham (Vice Academy), and Carla Baron (Sorority Babes in the Slimeball-Bowlarama). Even Dan Haggarity makes a cameo before being speared!

The old movie footage and posters are unique but become repetitive and boring after the first few kills. But the biggest problem “Bloody Movie” contains is how horrendous the last 30 minutes of the film is. The film moves at a brisk pace and is packed with kills, tits, and cheese…but comes to a grinding halt once the setting changes from the mansion to the final couple’s house. There, we are treated to old veteran actors (Cameron Mitchell, John Ireland) mumbling lines and walking around in the dark. It’s a disappointing and lame ending to a solid slasher.

The film is competently shot by director Nick Marino (although rumor has it Andre De Toth helped the first time Marino out with directing duties). Actor Timothy Erwell (looking like a steroided out mid-80’s John Mellencamp) is amusing as the biker Angel and Michelle Bauer is smoking hot (when isn’t she?)!

Overall, I’d recommend “Blood Movie” as a worthy slasher that deserves a bigger audience and a better reputation. It’s fun, it’s gory, and it’s fast paced.

“Bloody Movie” features bath tub sex, a hook to the head, 80’s bush, a bed of spikes, and a dude getting ripped in two!
